Summer Reading Books

For this first blog entry, you are going to write about something that you have all done: summer reading.  Many of us love reading in the summer because life slows down a bit and we can really relax and enjoy ourselves.

Here are some of the books I read this summer:

  • The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao – by Junot Diaz
  • An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination – by Elizabeth McCracken
  • A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius - by Dave Eggers
  • Outliers – by Malcom Gladwell
  • Angela’s Ashes – by Frank McCourt

Some of these books were required reading for me, but some of the books I had been saving and looking forward to reading all school year.

Here is your first assignment:

What is the one book that you’d like to tell people they should read over the summer?

You may choose a famous old book like A Tale of Two Cities or even the Bible, but you may also choose a book that is more obscure and less well known.

What book do you want to tell the world about?  What’s it about, and why do you think it’s so good?  And why should everybody read it, anyway — what good would it do them?
